Meet Your Counsellor

Jess Golden, BA, RPC-C

My path to becoming a counsellor has been anything but traditional, but that’s exactly what makes my approach unique. My story starts back in my first year of university, sitting in an intro psych class I had taken purely out of curiosity. That course ended up being the one thing I looked forward to amidst a sea of economics and accounting. It opened the door to a fascination with human behaviour, relationships, and the underlying forces that shape who we are.

But life isn’t always a straight line. After changing my major to psychology, I toyed with the idea of grad school, but life had other plans. I met someone, put my academic goals on hold, and embarked on a decade-long journey that took me through cross-province moves, a brief career in Holistic Nutrition (where I got to express my creativity in food), and the eventual end of that long-term relationship. What I thought was a detour became one of the most formative experiences of my life.

That relationship—leaving it and rediscovering who I was afterward—was a turning point. It taught me so much about resilience, healing, and what it means to intentionally build the life and relationships you truly want. I became fascinated with how relationships work, diving into books, conferences, workshops, and conversations about everything from conflict resolution to the neuroscience of love. I’ve learned firsthand that the most difficult moments can lead to the greatest growth, and I carry that belief into my work with clients every day.

I’ve faced my own struggles with anxiety, depression, and the uncertainty of “What am I really doing with my life?”—feelings I know many of us have faced. But through these experiences, I’ve found strength in continually returning to self-compassion, gratitude, and curiosity. Life is a series of unfolding chapters, and it’s this perspective that shapes how I show up as a counsellor: ready to walk alongside you, without judgment, and to help you uncover your own answers.

In my practice, I combine my personal experiences with professional training to help you explore your unique challenges. My approach is about blending the mind and body—digging into your emotional landscape while also building practical tools that can support you in daily life. Whether you’re navigating a difficult relationship, facing anxiety or depression, or seeking to better understand yourself, I’m here to help you feel more connected, balanced, and empowered in your journey.

I also bring a sense of humor and lightness into our sessions. Life can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be without laughter and connection. I aim to create a space where you can be your authentic self and feel fully seen and heard. We’re all a work in progress, and I’m here to support you every step of the way as you discover your own path forward.

Outside the Counselling Room...

You'll find me enjoying the outdoors as often as I can - whether it's trail walks or hikes with my pup, camping, exploring on my e-bike, or just soaking up the sun with my morning coffee.  I also have a consistent pilates and yoga practice which keep me grounded in my belief that we cannot heal the mind without the help of the body.  These moving meditations help me feel calm and strong when life around me is anything but.

I also love to travel and for me it is as much about exploring new, far-off places as it is about discovering the hidden gems and natural beauty right here in British Columbia, reminding me that enriching experiences and fresh perspectives can often be found not far from our own doorsteps.

Cooking, playing board games or escape rooms with friends, singing, attending concerts and stand-up comedy, and simply creating opportunities for play in the everyday are some other ways I keep life interesting and fulfilling.

I am a BC girl born-and-raised, and currently reside in Langley with my husband and our sweet fur-friend, Ollie.
